It is no secret that we are crazyyy about apprenticeships – and the reason for this is because they are so amazing! There are a lot of benefits to apprenticeships that many people don’t even know about, or may not think of at first thought. Apprenticeships are a great alternative to college or even university, as each individual will prefer a different path to follow. They are also a great option for anyone looking to up-skill or start a fresh career.
We keep saying apprenticeships are so great – but why are they so great?
Earn While You Learn
I always think that this one is obvious, however, so many people still don’t appreciate this huge benefit. If you study at college or decide university is for you, that’s perfect! However, you obviously do not get paid to study (student loan aside). Whereas with an apprenticeship, you literally get paid to learn. I mean?! Seems like a pretty good career choice to me. Whilst learning on the job and at college to facilitate your understanding and gain your qualifications, you’re getting a salary that you can go and enjoy. Granted, the apprenticeship wage is lower than the minimum wage. However, I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up at it.
Hands-on Training
We’ve already sort of touched on this, but it’s pretty obvious that for a lot of people college or university is the perfect route. However, you may think that sitting exams and having late nights in the library is your worst nightmare. Don’t worry, thinking about 9am lectures also sends a shiver down our spines. With apprenticeships, the time spent in the classroom is usually cut down to one day a week, which is great for someone who isn’t necessarily academic. The other four days are spent in the workplace, gaining practical experience and learning from your team. Apprenticeships are a great way to bring learning to life, so if you are a visual learner, get yourself signed up!
Increases Job Prospects
This is probably the point that most individuals don’t really consider when making a choice on education. It is often instilled that when you go for an interview, the main thing an employer looks at it is your qualifications and academic achievements. However, this is certainly not the case! Employers absolutely LOVE experience. Don’t get me wrong, you do need qualifications to succeed. But, your apprenticeship provides you with both of these crucial skills that will help you achieve your dream job. Experience doesn’t just mean within the role — for example, if you are doing an electrical apprenticeship, you will know how to rewire a unit. But, you will also know how to work as part of a team, communicate effectively, and be a team player. These skills are just as important as understanding your role and how to do it, which you can bring to the table by studying for an apprenticeship.
Are you convinced that you should start an apprenticeship? We thought you would be!
